NEPPA 2025 Opening Remarks

Thank you to the NEPPA team for bringing us all together to celebrate the year-round work of public power across New England. On behalf of the entire Kinsley Energy Systems team, we’re proud to sponsor this year’s event here in beautiful Burlington, Vermont.

Kinsley began as a small family business with a mission to serve our communities with emergency backup power solutions. Over the decades, we’ve grown to become one of the largest onsite energy companies in the region, designing, building, and maintaining a wide range of distributed energy systems that will define the future of the grid. We’ve powered hospitals through storms, backed up data centers before they were “mission critical,” and our service trucks are out in every weather event, partnering with utilities like yours to strengthen local reliability and resiliency.

We joined NEPPA a few years ago to more fully support a shared vision of what our electric power systems can be. This group gathered here tonight understands what it takes to serve this region, and we believe you are uniquely positioned to lead during a time of uncertainty and real energy challenges.

Public power customers across the country pay about $14 less per month on average than customers of investor-owned utilities. Service is restored over 50% faster, and roughly 40% of public power’s electricity comes from non-emitting sources.

These results speak for themselves. Public power is delivering cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable electricity than the IOUs, while staying closer and more accountable to the communities you serve. And when it comes to adopting new technologies like battery storage and microgrids, you’re better positioned to act without being slowed down by changing federal policy.

At Kinsley, we’re investing alongside you — with people, equipment, and expertise dedicated to projects that make sense now. It’s time to stop just talking about the future and build it, right here in New England.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the next couple of days and hearing about your projects, your challenges, and your ideas. The connections we make here often turn into the partnerships and solutions that strengthen our communities for years to come.
