Clean Energy to Power Conservation Nature Preserve in Bridgeport
Lake Success Energy Park will transform former industrial land into one of New England’s largest urban forests
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. [April 28, 2026] – A Connecticut-based development team has announced plans to create the Lake Success Energy Park, a landmark clean energy project in Bridgeport, Conn. This visionary public conservation and renewable energy and battery storage district will strengthen the regional electricity grid while supporting the long-term preservation of what will become one of the largest urban forests in New England.
The proposed clean energy park will be located on 51 acres of the historic Remington Arms facility in Bridgeport, where ammunition was once manufactured and tested during the major wars of the 20th century. By repurposing this former industrial site, the project will generate revenue to fund the management and maintenance of an adjacent 368 acres of public nature preserve—without relying on local tax dollars.
The project will provide clean, renewable energy to the region by redeveloping previously impacted land to support a 4-megawatt solar energy generating array and up to two 250-megawatt battery energy storage systems.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this historic project,” said David Kinsley, President of Kinsley Group. “Lake Success Energy Park is a first-of-its-kind project in the region that combines clean energy with the protection of old-growth forest and natural areas, and shows how cities can plan environmentally responsible development.”
“The proposed Energy Park is in Connecticut and is being developed largely by Connecticut-based companies,” said Paul Michaud of Michaud Law Group LLC, who represents the project.
“TRIAD Advanced Energy Development, based in Middletown, Conn., is working alongside Kinsley Energy Systems in East Granby, Conn., and TRITEC Americas, LLC, a solar operator with more than a dozen facilities across the state, to redevelop this former industrial site. Together, we are focused on creating long-term environmental, economic, and community benefits that will positively impact the surrounding area and its residents. The Lake Success Energy Park will also help stabilize the utility grid while generating funds to preserve the land for Bridgeport, Stratford, and surrounding communities to enjoy.”
Not only is battery storage safe and reliable, it also provides a clean way to store peak energy for when the electric grid experiences spikes in demand. This helps ease congestion on the grid and can delay—or even avoid—expensive and invasive grid expansion.
The project will be designed, installed, operated, and maintained under the latest safety standards, revised by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in late 2025. The NFPA 855 Standard strengthens mandatory safety requirements for battery systems—including all components, connections, and wiring.
“The development of the Lake Success Energy Park will provide the resources to protect, maintain, and finance the long-term stewardship of the 368 acres of urban forest, wetlands, and wildlife habitat,” said Milan Bull, Senior Director of Science and Conservation at CT Audubon. “This wooded area includes more than 70 species of birds, mammals, and fish, and this project will allow the gates of the forest to be opened to residents of Bridgeport and surrounding communities for the first time in more than 100 years.”
“This project stands as a legacy of what is possible when community voices are heard, and a vision is shared,” said Jhoni Ada, Sierra Club Connecticut organizer. “It offers hope – a model for resilience in environmentally burdened communities facing the realities of climate change – and proves that prioritizing people is not at odds with the bottom line.”
Lake Success Energy Park represents a new model for sustainable urban development—one that transforms a legacy industrial site into a long-term asset for both people and the environment. By strengthening the regional grid, advancing clean energy, and permanently protecting hundreds of acres of urban forest, the project demonstrates how smart planning can deliver environmental stewardship, economic value, and community access, creating benefits that will endure for generations.
