About Yonkers WWTP

Meritus Medical Center is an acute care hospital located in Hagerstown, Maryland with more than 300 beds, along with the most advanced technologies available. Services include a special care nursery, a level III trauma program, a primary stroke center, and a wound center, as well as a cardiac diagnostic laboratory.

The  Challenge

Meritus Medical Center needed a modern onsite energy platform capable of reducing operating costs while supporting critical electrical and thermal loads across its campus. The existing infrastructure required major upgrades to accept a new CHP plant, integrate additional cooling systems, and improve overall reliability for hospital operations during both normal and emergency conditions.

The Details

KES provided integration with the hospital campus by addressing electrical tie-ins, thermal distribution, equipment siting, utility coordination, and hospital safety requirements. The resulting system delivers reliable onsite generation and significant long-term savings while maintaining full compliance with healthcare facility standards.

The Solution

The microgrid centers on a high-efficiency 2.4 MW Combined Heat & Power system. The project added absorption cooling, new switchgear, and thermal recovery to improve operational resilience, reduce energy exposure, and support long-term sustainability goals. Fully integrated controls provide mission-critical reliability.
